Bid to link pupils with countryside
THE South of England Agricultural Society is pledging its support to a year-long initiative to bring children and the countryside together.
Year of Food and Farming is an industry-wide directive spear-headed by Farming and Countryside Education (FACE).
Bill Graham, head of education at FACE, said: 'We hope it will increase links between schools, farmers and food producers, encourage interest in careers in the food and farming industries and give a greater appreciation of the importance of the countryside.'
Planned assignments include growing projects, farm visits, preparing food and other countryside activities.
