Dozens of villagers queued outside the new Turner’s Pies store, in The Street, for hours to tuck into some of eatery’s freshly-baked treats.

The shop was officially unveiled by Rustington Parish Council chairman and county councillor for the area, Graham Tyler.

Mr Tyler said the bakery was a great addition to the village’s shopping precinct.

“I was extremely pleased with the shop and I am very impressed by the products.

“Talking to other traders, they were all extremely busy on Saturday. Whether that was on the back of Turner’s Pies I don’t know.

“But there really was a whole buzz about the village on Saturday. It had a great community feel to it, with people coming out and chatting.”

The shop is part of an expanding family-run chain, with another store in Bognor and baking base in Littlehampton.

Philip Turner, a third generation pie baker, and his brothers, Peter and Joseph, lead the company, which has won numerous awards and sells pies at luxury department store Harrods, in London.
