Asda's latest plans for Bognor Regis revealed to residents

Today sees Bognor Regis-area residents able to find out the latest information about a planned Asda store.

Representatives from the UK's second biggest supermarket operator will staff a display at the Regis Centre, in Belmont Street, between noon and 8pm today (Thursday, October 30) and from 10am until 4pm tomorrow (Friday, October 31).

It will take place exactly a year after the company's 30m proposals were first put on show.

It is expected that the delay by Arun District Council in deciding the planning application for the 48,000 sq ft sales area store off Oldlands Way in North Bersted will soon end.

Councillors are expected to debate the plans next month armed with a consultant's report about the store's expected impact on central Bognor.

Asda's scheme was greeted enthusiastically last year by many residents, parish councillors and businesses. The company wants to provide another chance for the public to ask any new questions about its major investment.

As well as the store, which will create 500 jobs, Asda intends to spend 4.5m of its investment installing the infrastructure for a business park next door.

This will include building a 10,000sq ft business unit to tempt the first occupiers on to the site.

The retailer claims that the project will further benefit people around Bognor by giving them greater shopping choice locally rather than having to drive to Chichester or Littlehampton.
