Artistic Felpham efforts celebrated at event

Creative works of art were celebrated at a Felpham group's awards evening.

The Felpham Art Group marked a year of work at their annual awards celebration by raising a glass and a cheer to recognise members artistic talents.

The group’s chairman, Terry Collins, said: “The standard this year has been fantastic.

“All the work is of such a high quality and what is even better from my point of view is that we have 360 paintings displayed from 44 artists showing the level of talent we have in the society.

“All the paintings were judged impartial, and the judge wanted me to pass on his comments of how high he thought the quality of work was.”

Rosettes and cups were presented to winners and runners-up by Mr Collins, and guest-of-honour and club president, Lady Caroline Marshall.

“I am always pleased to attend these events and appreciate the high standard of work produced by the group. Well done to you all and once again thank you for inviting me,” said Lady Marshall.

Lady Marshall also selected the winner and runner-up in the President’s Personal Choice Award - Best Artistic Merit.

Mr Collins said the group’s five day exhibition which started with the awards evening had already enjoyed considerable success. “We have already had a good stream of people through the door. We have had some lovely comments and what is even better is that 14 paintings each by a different artist have been sold,” he said.

The beautiful paintings mark another positive year for the club which has seen its membership grown considerably.

“Our numbers have risen in the last two to three months from 86 to 117, something I am very proud of. A lot of our new members have been the result of the closing of the Littlehampton Art Club. We are pleased to welcome the new members and they all seem to have settled in very well,” added Mr Collins.
