Armed raid - three arrested

THREE men have been arrested in connection with a robbery in which a gang of robbers forced their way into a house and tied up the occupants.

A couple were tied up by robbers who stole 5,000 and a pearl necklace.

At around midday on Saturday a 52-year-old man, who was visiting a house in Meeching Road, Newhaven, answered the door to four men.

The raiders barged their way into the house. The man struggled to stop them, injuring his head.

They tied the man and his girlfriend, aged 40, by their wrists and demanded money.

The victims thought they saw a handgun. No shots were fired.

The owners of the house returned a short time later and the four men had fled.

Two local men, aged 35 and 26, have been arrested and released on bail pending further

A 19-year-old man from London is in custody for interview.
