All in all 'a great day out' at seaside

Plenty of action took place on the seafront during the weekend. The events and activities kept the crowds entertained for hours during both afternoons. The Punch and Judy show was a favourite among young children and adults alike, with screeching and laughter heard from far away.

Local parent Alison Gilbert (33), of North Bersted, described the whole occasion as 'great for a day out', and said after living in other seaside towns, she could not imagine the Birdman being held in any other location.

Among the performers were the O'Mainnin School of Irish Dance, fronted by Sarah Manning.

Until recently, Sarah was the lead role on Michael Flately's Lord of the Dance and Riverdance shows.

She said: 'I started a dance school based in Westergate about six months ago and I'm really enjoying teaching. After nine years of dancing and being on the road, I decided to go for a different challenge. Not quite jumping off the pier though, that is crazy. Well done to everyone who is doing it!'

The performance from the group started with younger students taking to the stage who said they were 'very nervous' about their first performance. Sarah came on stage and showed just how she gained the lead role by performing a piece from the Lord of the Dance to impress all.

Other performers were the Balandis-Lilley Ballet School, the Aziza Egyptian Dance Group, the Knots of May Morris Dancers, Golden Boulder and the Regis Troopers.
