All aboard as train walk steams to £1,000

THE second annual train walk of a local autistic society braved foul weather to raise just over £1,000.

Around 35 people, lead by a fat controller and Sarah Fletton, branch officer for the Bexhill Branch of the National Autistic Society, walked from Egerton Park along the promenade to the Sailing Club and back on Saturday.

"We had a good turnout," said Sarah.

"Everyone just put their coats on and went for it, despite the rain."

The 1,039 raised helps provide activities for local children affected by Asperger's Syndrome or autism.

The Bexhill branch is a voluntary organisation lead by the mums of affected children.

Sarah, whose six-year-old son Joel has autism, founded the group a few years ago, and since then many Bexhill families have appreciated its support.

Sarah said: "Lots of people are still getting in contact with us. It's amazing how many local families are affected."
