THE action of the Town Council in allowing the Deputy Mayor the free use of the Park for pyrotechnics has evidently not been well received in some quarters, or else some of the members of the Corporation like to make betting transactions with municipal affairs. Cllr Wall has a Notice of Motion down on the agenda for next Monday's meeting which should cause some fun. This versatile councillor intends to ask his colleagues: "if he can have free use of the Park for two days in August."

THE proposal to erect a pavilion for the Bexhill Bowling Club has fallen through. The Surveyor recently submitted a plan for the pavilion, but the Pleasure Grounds Committee (of which Cllr Fitch-Jones is Chairman, and who by the way is adept at "rolling the woods") have decided that they cannot recommend any action being taken at present.

ESTABLISHING a catering point on the West Parade is now likely to cost more than 7,000, an increase of some 2,000 on a previous plan. Town Council permission to go ahead with the scheme will be sought on April 29. The building, to be sited opposite Brockley Road, will be on a long, narrow, design with a flat roof. It will make use of more expensive finishings than previously envisaged, but at the same time the expected annual surplus is cut from 714 to 412 in the first few years of the point's operation.

IN circulation next Tuesday will be the first two coins of the new decimal currency to become legal tender. The two coins are the new 10 penny coin (10p) and the new five penny (5p).
