A consultation has been launched into the future of the service in a bid for the local NHS group – Eastbourne Hailsham and Seaford CCG – to save money.

But East Sussex Save the NHS Campaign has been fighting to save the health service, and says more than 1,700 people have signed their petition against the potential closure.

A spokesperson for the group said, “We believe this potential closure is part of a wider picture of NHS policy decisions that are robbing our population of the healthcare services they have paid for and need.

“Our town has already lost some of its core services from the hospital, many of us have experienced a whole raft of problems when accessing NHS services and soon we will start to see even more changes in primary care.

“You have shown how passionate you are about keeping the walk-in centre so please keep signing our petition but do also engage with the CCG’s public consultation.

“You really need to make sure you tell the CCG exactly what you have been telling us.”

The group has also organised a free film screening of the documentary The Great NHS Heist, which is open for all to attend at St Elisabeth’s Church in Victoria Drive from 6.30pm on the Friday (February 28).

The film was produced by NHS campaigner and working GP Dr Bob Gill and exposes what it calls the ‘stealth privatisation’ of the NHS.

The consultation into the walk-in centre in Eastbourne station was launched earlier this month and will run until April 30 this year.
