A Pagham woman who has been busy making scrubs bags for NHS staff ‘morning until night’ is now hoping to find them a good home.

Jan Smith, 62, has made just over 200 scrubs bags which are ready to be used by local NHS workers, to help reduce the risk of contamination.

After she decided to put her sewing machine to good use, Jan put a sign up on her hedge asking her neighbours to donate any spare pillow cases for the project by throwing them over her gate.

Before she knew it, she said: “I’d had bucket loads, absolute bucket loads.”

She has spent the last three weeks transforming them into bags.

“It’s taken over my life!” she said. “But I’ve enjoyed doing it, it’s been fun.”

She said her husband, who she lives with, and her friends had also been ‘really supportive’ by donating extra materials.
