Eastbourne care home staff get Covid vaccine

Staff at an Eastbourne care home say they were delighted to be some of the first to get the new Covid vaccination.

The spirits of staff at Barchester’s Mortain Place care home in Eastbourne were lifted when they were invited to have the vaccine at Brighton hospital.

General manager Karen Howell, said, “We’ve had a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel. Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Carolyn Tyrer, staff member at the home, said, “I am so pleased to be given the vaccine. It will help to keep our residents safe, and is the first step in getting things back to normal and having a buzz of visitors in the home once again.”

A spokesperson for the home said, “We are welcoming new residents into our homes to ensure that we are there for those that need care and support, and we have very clear protocols that must be met including a transition period into our home to help keep everyone safe.”
