Rustington family set to help orphaned children

IT WILL be a summer holiday with a twist for one Rustington family next month as they travel across the globe to help orphaned children

David Boreham, his wife Carol, and their three teenage children, Rebecca, Bethany and Andrew, will all be heading out to Uganda to help better the lives of children as part of a humanitarian aid effort in the country.

The family will be joining a team building houses in the north-eastern Kumi district, which will be used to shelter orphaned children.

David, who is the head teacher at St Margaret’s CE Primary School, in Angmering, said: “Going to Africa is something that we have been thinking as a family of doing for a couple of years but now we have decided to take the plunge and see what contribution we can make to enhancing the life of children in a developing country.”

The trip has been organised through Mission Direct, a Christian charity working in some of the poorest regions in the world.

As part of the visit, the Borehams will help to build and decorate the houses as well as planting and watering crops for the youngsters, too.

Each house costs about £13,000 to build and will house around eight children who have been orphaned from the recent civil war and major AIDS epidemic.

David, whose family lives in Harsfold Road, added: “I am particularly looking forward to meeting up with groups of children of primary and secondary school age and getting to experience their culture. Our own children are quite apprehensive about this adventure, but I am sure this will be a life-changing experience for all of us.”

The family has travelled to Africa before. However, this will be the first time they have been on an aid mission to the continent. The two-week adventure begins on Saturday, August 4. To sponsor them, see virginmoneygiving.com/team/borehams
