Cowfold business author had ‘time of her life’ writing book

Mandy Flint, chief executive officer of Excellence in Leadership, which offers leadership development and business culture transformation,co-authored the book with Elisabet Vinberg Hearn, a former colleague.

Entitled ‘The Team Formula: A Leadership Tale of a Team who Found their Way’ the book portrays events taking place within an international business after a recent merger, with all the backbiting, and conflict that can be found in any organisation.

“I don’t think I have had so much fun in my life,” she said.

“To see it published was such an amazing feeling. To get this book and touch this thing you have worked on for so long, you feel elated.”

Mandy added: “We had worked together and we wanted to get our message across to as many people as possible.

“The message is how do people have relationships at work.

“You spend a lot of time at work. You want to spend it in a good place and have the right relationships.”

They decided to write it as a story rather than a business ‘how to book’ as Mandy said there were hundreds of them.

She explained: “We decided it’s much more enjoyable to write a story and it gets people more engaged.

“We have written about all those things that happen in every work place, the backbiting, the challenges that people find working in a global team.”

Since Elisabet lives in Stockholm they had to use their time wisely, visiting South Lodge Hotel and Ockenden Manor for inspiration.

“We wanted it to be fun and not hard work and the great thing is that it did not feel that hard,” Mandy added.

“We really drew from our 20 years of experience seeing it over and over again that‘s why the characters are so live because there’s one of them in every single team.”

Asked what advice she would give on work and operating a business, she said: “You must have fun and get on with each other and have better relationships by having a chat, getting to know people better because you can have greater discussions at work and get to the root of issues quicker.”

“Start really building relationships getting behind something together that makes a real impact to your business,” she continued.

“It’s nice to give something back to people that can make a difference to their life not just their bottom line.”
