But due to social distancing she has had to adapt her business.

"Normally physiotherapy uses a hands-on based approach, with assessment first to diagnose and formulate a treatment plan," explains Sarah.

"As things stand at present, face to face contact is not possible."

Sarah has found many new effective ways of helping her existing patients, as well as new ones, using a variety of platforms, including FaceTime and Zoom.

She is able to fully assess each patient and give practical and appropriate advice on managing their condition at home including exercises and self treatment.

Sarah acquired Highmead Physiotherapy in 2007 after moving back to her home town of Eastbourne. She had previously spent 25 years in London where she initially worked at St Thomas' Hospital and has run her own private practice for more than 30 years.

"We are all experiencing a very different way of life at the moment, which is likely to involve far more sitting, increased laptop, mobile phone and tablet use; and generally being less active than before," Sarah said.

This is leading to a variety of problems such as: stiff neck or back, swollen feet and ankles, hip and knee pain, shoulder tightness or pain, breathing difficulties, either Covid or non-Covid related, difficulty with sleeping/loneliness.

She said: "Many of these problems are preventable, manageable and treatable with the expert and professional advice from a chartered physiotherapist."
