Family run Eastbourne business to close after 60 years

Lynley’s, the independent jewellers within Asda, will close at the end of the month on September 30 with sisters Lyn and Lesley planning to retire after the coronavius pandemic and lockdown.

Their late father, Norman Poole and their mother Pat, established the first Lynley shop in Polegate in 1961 – the name was a combination of both his daughters names, Lyn and Lesley.

The sisters said that as a respected member of the community and local businessman, Norman went on to expand his shops into premises in Hailsham, Langney Shopping Centre, and eventually Asda.

When Norman retired, both his daughters purchased the business to continue the trade and service Lynley’s offered.

They said, “Loyal customers remained and always share stories of our father with fond memories of the business when it first started in Polegate High Street.

“As with all family businesses, many of the family have worked within Lynley’s, something which our father was very proud of.”

As the business grew into larger premises in Asda, Lyn’s son Dominic followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and attained many qualifications and skills within the trade and took on the role of manager.

The sisters said that over the years all the members of staff have been loyal and passionate employees, each have contributed to make Lynley’s a name to be remembered for that personal service and special piece of jewellery.

Lyn and Lesley say that throughout the many years, they have been fortunate to build a loyal customer following, many of whom have become good friends of both.

They said, “We would like to take this opportunity to give a heartfelt thank you to all our clients and customers for their continued support over the past 60 years Lynley’s has a huge sale on at the moment with cabinets and display for sale.”
