VIDEO: Your thoughts on a 20mph Horsham speed limit

Reporter Ollie McAteer took to the streets of Horsham to find out your views on the plans to reduce the speed limit in parts of the town to 20 miles per hour.

Jack Wallace, 24, Horsham said: “People seem to drive sensibly through the town centre but if it improves public safety I’m all for it.”

Similarly, Claire Penticost, 56, Horsham added: “I would agree with it because the roads are really tight, there are lots of parked cars and kids running around.”

‘Horsham 20’s plenty’, which was launched last week and fronted by Greg Collins, a member of Horsham and District Cycling Forum, aims to bring benefits to every town and village in the district, making it a ‘truly great district to live in’.

He said: “The easiest and simplest way to tame the traffic on the streets and return ‘ownership’ of them to pedestrians and cyclists is the introduction of 20mph limits wherever people live.”

He thought that if a 20mph limit was introduced in the town, excluding the A and B roads it would encourage more cycling and walking, improving the health of residents.

Colin Stringer, 56, Horsham said: “I’m completely in favour of it. If you made it 20mph then people would drive 30mph.”

Dan Purchase, 35, Horsham is also for the proposed 20mph speed limit: “It’s an excellent idea because drivers do tend to forget the speed limit around here.”

However, 70-year-old Barbara Matthews from Horsham said: “I don’t think that’s a good idea, 30mph is better. I just think 20mph is very very slow.”

What do you think of the campaign? Are you unhappy with road safety on your street or road?
