Solo exhibition in Battle for Rye artist

The show, titled Then & Now, takes the viewer on a journey through a collection of Brenda’s past and present prints and paintings, many of them now very rare or, in some cases, the last available piece in the edition.

With 50 years of making art under her belt, and her work held in collections throughout the world, Brenda’s early work demonstrates how she developed and exploited the embossing characteristics of etching and collagraph.

Alongside this, Brenda’s latest work displays her love of abstracting the essence of the landscape, in richly coloured textured works, often enhanced with silver and gold leaf.

Those who missed Brenda’s recent major solo retrospective at the Bankside Gallery in London will enjoy a second chance to see Brenda’s older work side by side with her current collection in Battle.

From figurative to abstract, cityscape to countryside, the exhibition includes a broad range of Brenda’s interpretation of the form, structure, colour and textures of the world we live in.

Saffron director Liz Honey said: “Then & Now is an eye-opener for many people locally and regionally who haven’t seen Brenda’s earlier work. Visitors have been blown away by the level of detail in early etchings, the way Brenda captured London life in her trainscapes and cityscapes, and the time-capsule snaphots of many well known London landmarks in the eighties, before their redevelopment. This work, sitting side by side with Brenda’s very latest abstract landscapes, which have always been tremendously popular, is thrilling to follow in chronological order and visitor feedback is fascinating.”

A council member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers (RE), Brenda regularly exhibits in London and throughout the UK, as well as internationally in Spain, Australia and New Zealand. Brenda wrote “Collagraphs and Mixed Media Printmaking” which is now in its fifth print run, and has produced a 2 disc DVD set ”Collagraph, a Sculptural Approach to Printmaking”, both of which are available at the exhibition.
