THE deputy chairman opened the meeting and welcomed all the members with a special mention of the four new people who were attending their first meeting.

He hoped that they would find it interesting and that they would continue to come to future meetings.

After a few birthday and anniversary announcements, he introduced the speaker for the day, who is known as the Laughing Policeman. He is a retired policeman from the Sussex Constabulary and he gave a talk on his experiences from when he first joined the force, relating the comical parts of the job in Hove, Bexhill and Hastings. The talk was well received by the members present, who showed their appreciation in the usual way. The chairman thanked the ladies of Eastbourne for the refreshments and the meeting closed with a raffle and bingo.

The next meeting is at St. Peter's Community Centre in Bexhill on September 11 and will be a Social Afternoon.
