Rising stars shine in music society’s latest season

Spokesman Gary Prior said: “The brilliant Endymion visits Steyning on Saturday, May, 9, playing the clarinet quintets of Mozart and Brahms.

“Endymion delivers world-class performances of chamber music throughout London, the UK and abroad. They perform regularly at venues including Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre, the BBC Proms, and the Cheltenham and Spitafields Festivals.

“They have toured in Austria, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, Finland and Italy. In 2014 Endymion gave their tenth Proms performance playing Steve Reich’s Desert Music with the BBC Singers.

“On Saturday, July 4, winner of BBC Young Musician 2014, pianist Martin James Bartlett plays music by Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninov, Liszt and Prokofiev.

“Martin has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre, St John’s Smith Square and the Royal Albert Hall. He made his BBC Proms debut at the Last Night playing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Ulster Orchestra.

“Future engagements include concerto performances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.”

Internationally acclaimed early music group, Florilegium, appear on Saturday, September 19, in a programme of music by Telemann and his contemporaries.

“Having established a global reputation for stylish and exciting interpretations, Florilegium regularly collaborates with many of the world’s finest musicians. Their recordings for Channel Classics have been awarded many prizes including a Gramophone Award and Diapasons d’Or.”

The Society’s final concert of the season is at 3pm on Sunday, November 29, when all-female trumpet quartet Bella Tromba bring their dazzling playing to brighten the dark days of winter, Gary said.

“With the combined experience of playing in the Britten Sinfonia and the London Symphony Orchestra, Bella Tromba will be presenting an entertaining programme of music from the Renaissance, via jazz to the modern day.”

The group has played throughout the UK and appeared on BBC radio as well as at the Cheltenham Festival and the South Bank Centre.

Steyning Music Society kicks-off their season on Saturday, March 14, with the Wu String Quartet playing string quartets by Haydn, Janacek and Beethoven.

“The Wu Quartet performs regularly across the UK and on the Continent, having given concerts at the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room in London, Music in the Round in Sheffield, Vienna, Beijing, Florence, Snape Maltings, the BBC Proms, Bridgewater Hall and at many music societies.

“The Quartet has had numerous competition successes around the world and has made regular appearances on BBC Radio 3.”
