Bexhill Hanoverian Study Group

On September 17 at at St Peter's Community Centre, the group had one of its most inspiring talks for a long time when Chris Shaw, accompanied by Tony Wilkes, addressed us on Shorncliffe Redoubt, the birthplace of the British Light Infantry.

At Shorncliffe, Sir John Moore modernised the British infantry with new weapons and new techniques that have been the foundation of the elite forces ever since. Dressed in early 95th Rifles uniform (the Green-jackets) Rifleman Shaw passionately explained his dream to save Shorncliffe Redoubt and make it an educational site, preserving a vital part of military history.

Our next event, on Wednesday, October 15, will be an illustrated talk, with accompanying music, entitled Mr Handel's Maggot - fanciful ideas, used by composers to describe instrumental pieces. This will be given by Dr Hick, editor of The Organ, and will begin at 7.30pm at St Peter's Community Centre, Old Town. With such an intriguing title, we look forward to some exciting disclosures.

Visitors will be made very welcome. Admittance 1.
