Be transported back to the romance and elegance of 19th Century Vienna as the much-loved Johann Strauss Gala returns to the Congress Theatre on Thursday, January 30, at 7.30pm, with a new show for 2014 filled with fabulous music, fun and frocks.

Join the irrepressible showman and conductor Rainer Hersch for A Viennese Party as he takes you on a light-hearted journey though a fizzing assortment of music, song and dance, joined on this occasion by award-winning soprano Kristy Swift.

A Viennese Party features the swirling melody of The Skater’s Waltz and sweeping crescendo of the triumphant Emperor Waltz, The Radetzky March, Cuckoo Polka and a sparkling selection of much-loved songs from the era of romance.

Let the joyous, uplifting and internationally popular tune of The Blue Danube, without doubt the most famous waltz ever written, transport you to graceful world of billowing gowns and distinctive elegance.

Accompanied by the Johann Strauss Orchestra, the delightful Johann Strauss Dancers perform some of the most romantic waltzes and liveliest polkas ever composed, in glorious full costumes of the period.

Watch as the players effortlessly recreate a time when sumptuous frocks filled glittering ballroom floors and the revolutionary Viennese Waltz, with its closed couple hold and rapid rotation of 30 revolutions per minute, provided a new heady notion of romantic dance with grace, flow and motion.
