For the first time in its 90 year history, Burlesque hits the Barn Theatre, Seaford and the question has to be asked - is Seaford ready for this saucy show?
Award winning event hostess, Dawn Gracie, thinks so; “Burlesque is a form of theatrical entertainment which is amusing and highly entertaining - and it can be very surprising as well. It’s a celebration of the body and not necessarily just the female body.”
As well as event hosting, Dawn teaches themed burlesque classes which bring confidence and fun to all her students.
Dawn is a born performer and has spent over ten years in the entertainments business. In 2011, after being awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Dressed’ at the infamous Goodwood Revival, an invitation to ‘show off’ her outfit at a local nursing home gave her the encouragement to devise a retro repertoire and launch herself as the ‘all singing, all dancing’ Dawn’s Vintage Do. Having been obsessed with all things 50’s and 60’s for most of her life, and with friends and family frequently telling her that she had been born in the wrong era, this gave Dawn the perfect opportunity to work with a nostalgic musical genre and showcase her extensive, ever growing collection of vintage outfits.
Developing her skills from rock to retro, Dawn loves interacting with an audience, and she is also an accomplished and professional producer. From her very own Cabaret Club in Chichester and resident Starlet’s Burlesque Show at the Worthing Pier Southern Pavilion to full scale theatre shows, she can turn her hand to anything.
Tickets for her variety shows sell out quickly in West Sussex and she is hoping a broad-minded audience in Seaford embrace the acts she is bringing for her one night show, including Violet Blaze, Alfie Ordinary and Lolita Yves, for a night of comedy, dance, sauciness and drag.
Flamboyant drag star, Cherry Liquor, is tipped to shock and delight the audience with her biting humour.
Seaford. Prepare yourself. They’re coming.
Tickets are priced at £10 and are available (over 18’s only) at www.ticketsource.co.uk/thebarntheatre or from the Tourist Information Centre, Church Street, Seaford.
