The International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) British Ring returns to Eastbourne this year for their annual convention.
They have held this event here on many occasions since their first visit in 1958.
This yearly get-together for UK magicians with guests from many parts of the world is an occasion for the illusionists to mix and mingle with their fellow members and learn more about this specialised art form from carefully chosen lecturers and suppliers of equipment for their magical needs. Although much of this will take place behind closed doors in the Winter Garden they are staging two public shows as part of the convention. Both of these are on Saturday September 26 at the Congress theatre.
At 10.30am Sooty and Friends Magic Show will be presented by CITV’s Richard Cadell, where Sooty Sweep and Sue will be up to their usual mischief. Guest performers are Niels Duinker, a juggler from Holland, and UK artistes Mel Harvey and his singalong, and grand illusion from Andrew Green.
Outside the theatre before the show, stilt walker Crazy Hazee will be appearing and free balloon models will be offered to children by Pam Cooper and Snaggers. Children will have the opportunity of having their photo taken with Sooty after the show. Tickets are £11 with a reduction for children under 16 to £8. A family ticket (2 children and 2 adults, sells at £35).
In the evening there is a show entitled Stars of Magic and Variety featuring artists from Holland, Switzerland, Spain and the UK presenting Magic, Juggling, Ventriloquism, Fast Dress Change, Comedy, Dance and Illusion. This is a fast moving show designed to enthrall and entertain. Tickets are £19 with under 16’s at £15.
One of the convention organisers Brian Miller told the Herald: “We love Eastbourne for the mild climate, great choice of accommodation and excellent theatre facilities. It is a pleasure to be back here and I am looking forward to meeting many of our members again from the 24th – 27th September.”
