YOUNG artists are being invited to get involved in the new Towner project GENERATE.
Running from August 22-26, youngsters aged 14-19 are being invited to come together to create, plan, promote and run a brand new live event for young people by young people.
GENERATE aims to encourage young people to get the most out of the Towner and the ongoing project will see participants generating and engaging in a wide range of activities, using the latest creative technology including iPads, Photoshop, audio tech, film, animation and web.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Councillor Neil Stanley is looking forward to the project.
He said, “We are very excited to launch GENERATE, the Towner’s first project that’s all about young people and finding ways to make our fantastic gallery work for them.
“The Towner is a brilliant state of the art gallery space and a great resource for the young people living, working and studying in Eastbourne and I’d encourage as many as possible to take the opportunity to get involved with GENERATE.
“We are open to hearing all sorts of ideas and GENERATE’s first project will see the creation of a brand new event for Towner and the local community.”
GENERATE will provide a welcoming space for young people to get involved with Towner and they’ll be encouraged to explore innovative creative free workshops and activities, to plan an event alongside professional promoters and artists, and to share their thoughts and visions on what they can see the Towner doing for them.
Anyone interested should drop into the Towner on August 22, from 2 - 6pm, to register and find out more.
This day will include taster sessions and giveaways and the event summer school will continue to run each afternoon that week until August 26, from 2-6pm each day.
Over the long term, the Towner hopes that GENERATE will see young people working on activities that involve streetwear, fashion, graffiti, Arts Awards, video and other mediums.
