Take That tribute celebrates boy band

A lively crowd gathered at Eastbourne Bandstand for tribute act The Take That Experience.

Four smartly dressed lads confidently arrive to the stage and we’re all playing a silent game of guess who. Gary Barlow is front man for ‘Rule The World’ and facially resembles the original. Gary blows kisses out into the crowd as Mark takes lead during ‘Up All Night’. By now we’ve all guessed that baby face is Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald are more difficult to differentiate. We get a closer look when the boys come off stage to sing among us. This interaction creates a very friendly atmosphere.

A boisterous Robbie Williams in dark shades takes to the stage. His opening song ‘Let Me Entertain You’ immediately gets everybody up and moving. Robbie quickly forms a strong bond with us and we are very responsive to him. The fact that he looks sounds and moves like Robbie Williams helps. For half an hour the stage is owned by Robbie as a solo act. He plays ‘Rock DJ’, a cover of ‘We Will Rock You’ into ‘I love Rock and Roll’, ‘Candy’ and ‘Angels’. ‘Angels’ is a highlight of the evening.

Tonight’s tribute may not have been the most convincing impersonators but Take That Experience put on a great show nonetheless. Next Friday we shall see if Queen has as much to give - by John Mclean
