THE PHOENIX Choir will be starting rehearsals for the new season on September 7 under new musical director Michael Fields (right).

Michael, who lives in Eastbourne, is a multi-faceted musician with a world wide reputation in performing, composing, teaching and record producing.

Although a lutenist and guitarist through his first training, his work has always involved working with singers, from accompanying singers ranging from Emma Kirkby to Van Morrison, to conducting amateur and professional choral choirs.

Originally from California he came to England in 1974 to continue his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and in Basel.

The choir will be performing Mozart’s Requiem on January 28 and rehearsals are held in the Church Room of St Saviour’s. Anyone who is interested in joining should come along to the first rehearsal, which runs from 7.30pm-9.30pm
