The Fretful Federation Mandolin Orchestra return to the All Saints Chapel, Meads on Sunday (July 12) and promise to plink, pluck and strum their way through an eclectic programme of classical and contemporary arrangements.
Vivaldi, Shostakovich, Jeff Lynne’s Mr Blue Sky and Ennio Morricone’s theme tune The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, and many others will be played in exuberant style.
Ian Harris founded the Brighton-based Fretful Federation 20 years ago with the aim of reviving the tradition of the mandolin orchestra. Since then, he’s not only realised his ambition but has seen the orchestra’s popularity and success go from strength to strength.
When Harris resigned in 2012, he passed the baton to Lindsay Stoner, who will once again be directing and performing.
Guest soloist for the afternoon concert will be international flautist Katherine Rogers, who will be joining the FFMO for a performance of a Vivaldi’s flute concerto and Lars Forsland’s enchanting Sakura Suite.
Sunday 12 July 3-5pm All Saints Chapel, Darley Road, Meads, Eastbourne. Tickets £10 (£8 concessions). Refreshments at the font before the performance and during the interval.
