Handel’s Messiah is Easter offering

Eastbourne Choral Society’s next concert will be an Easter celebration of local musical collaboration.

An orchestra and four professional young soloists will join the choir in a performance of Handel’s Messiah at All Saints’ Church, Grange Road.

This concert will feature Welsh soprano Catrin Woodruff who has sung with the choir previously, for instance in the English Anthems concert last November. She has performed locally in the Brighton Early Music Festival, Berwick Opera Festival and with the East Sussex Bach Choir.

Emma Stannard, alto, has appeared with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera Chorus and the London Handel Festival, among others, while Jack Roberts, tenor, and James Williams, bass, have taken part in the prestigious AIMS International Music School held annually at Eastbourne College.

Under musical director John Hancorn, the choir will once again be joined by The Eastbourne Sinfonia, led by Jenny King of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The concert is on Holy Saturday, March 26, 7.30pm, admission is free with a retiring collection.
