The 200th anniversary of Waterloo is being celebrated at the Redoubt Fortress with a concert at 7.45pm on Saturday September 5.
There will be a mix of rousing music including the French National Anthem, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, and Scottish music as reminder the Coldstream Guards and the Scots Greys took a leading role at the battle. Music will be linked to many other presentations. Peter and Christopher Pyemont will act as narrators. There will be movies, maps and stills on the big screen, and actors will become participants on the field of Waterloo. For those who wish to get into celebratory mood, there will be a drinks reception at 6.15 pm. To make everyone feel suitably patriotic, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory will provide the finale. Two charities will benefit from the event - the Army Benevolent Fund, and St. Wilfred’s Hospice. Tickets from 01323 410300.
