One of the UK’s most in-demand pairs, Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar, make their debut at The Lamb Folk Club on Wednesday July 1.
Both lads come from musical backgrounds and began developing their musical skills long before joining forces in 2011.
Ciaran is a former world champion fiddle player, a title picked up in Ireland at the age of 11, while Greg (guitar, bouzouki and concertina] plays and sings with a maturity and emotion beyond his years.
The last couple of years for Greg and Ciaran have been remarkable by any standards. They released their debut album, The Queen’s Lover in 2012, won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in February 2013, while still at school, and then the Horizon Award for best newcomers at the Royal Albert Hall a year later.
On the back of such acclaim, they have been busy gigging, playing Cambridge and Cropredy, among notable festival bills and a regular round of folk clubs. Somewhere in the mix, they’ve also managed to squeeze in the recording of a second album, The Call, just released via Fellside Records.
Demonstrating amazing energy, technical ability and stagecraft, their dynamic live shows have garnered rave reviews and consolidated their position as two outstanding young performers. All welcome, doors open at 7.30pm, admission is £7 with students and under-16s half price. For more info call 01323 728268.
