Members of Eastbourne Choral Society and Lewes-based East Sussex Back Choir are busy putting the finishing touches to The Dream of Gerontius, which they will perform next weekend (March 29).
Tickets have been selling fast for Elgar’s epic choral masterpiece, which both societies have now been rehearsing for 12 weeks.
Internationally-renowned Tenor Adrian Thompson leads a stellar line up of soloists, to play the role of Gerontius, the old man whose journey from death to his arrival in the next world and the judgment hall before God is captured to music.
He will be joined by Mezzo Soprano Pippa Dames-Longworth who will sing the role of the Angel and guides Gerontius on his journey in the afterlife. Bass-Baritone Matthew Hargreaves will sing the role of the Priest.
The concert takes place at 7.30pm at All Saints’ Church, Grange Road, Eastbourne. Tickets are £12 and £15 - available in advance from Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre in Cornfield Road, or on 07759 878562.
