Herstmonceux goes medieval again

THE ANNUAL Medieval Festival at Herstmonceux Castle celebrates its 19th year this Bank Holiday Weekend.

The event has become an August Bank Holiday favourite for families, with visitors from across England and Europe.

With more performers, artists and attractions than ever before this year’s event is set to entice a record number of visitors.

A spectacular medieval artillery display and a grand parade featuring knights, ladies, mounted horses and performers all clad in authentic regalia will mark the opening of three days of medieval fun and games.

There will be battle re-enactments and when the fighting is over Europe’s finest bowmen gather to compete in the longbow and crossbow competitions.

Visitors can try their hand at archery and enjoy falconry displays.

Living history encampments and Europe’s largest medieval traders’ market offer a rare glimpse into the everyday life in the fifteenth century.

There will be refreshments on offer too with hogs roasting over open fire pits and two taverns providing award-winning ales.
