Winner of the prestigious Horizon Award at this year’s BBCR2 Folk Awards, The Sam Kelly Duo guests at The Lamb Folk Club on Wednesday July 6.

Inspired by the songs of his Irish grandfather, 23 year old Sam has dedicated himself to rediscovering the sounds of his Gaelic heritage and creating exciting new music that transcends boundaries.

However, Sam’s first taste of the limelight came in 2012 when, as a teenager, he reached the final of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent. It was the release, the following year, of his debut EP Your Way Home that created a buzz on the folk scene and his acclaimed follow up, Spokes, landed him a nomination in the Best Singer category at the 2015 Spiral Earth Awards.

Sam has gained a reputation for a dynamic live show and, following a barnstorming performance at The 2015 Cambridge Folk Festival, he was invited to play a live session on the R2 Mark Radcliffe show. Whether playing to 13 million people on television or to a folk club audience, Sam’s child-like fascination with music shines through and the passion of rekindling the sounds of his musical heritage has gained him the respect of peers and audiences worldwide. Sam will be joined on stage by Jamie Francis, a superb young guitar and banjo player.

All are welcome to the event and admission is £7 on the door with students and under 16s half price. The doors open at 7.30pm and enquiries can be made on 01323 728268.
