Ayckbourn gem for summer fun

Round and Round The Garden
Round and Round The Garden

Eastbourne Theatres’ in-house production of Alan Ayckbourn’s award-winning classic comedy Round and Round the Garden has blossomed at the Devonshire Park Theatre.

This perfect summertime entertainment opened on Thursday July 23 and will run until Saturday August 8.

At times wildly comic, and at times incredibly poignant, Round and Round the Garden brilliantly portrays the complicated relationships amongst six intertwined characters.

Assistant librarian Norman is intent on making all the women in his life happy, simultaneously attempting to seduce his sister-in-law Annie, charm his brother’s wife Sarah and still keep his own wife, Ruth, content. Oblivious to the repercussions of his actions, Norman leaves a trail of havoc, misunderstandings and comedy consequences. Whatever happened to a peaceful weekend in the country?

Playing Norman is Charles Davies (Emmerdale, EastEnders); Jo Castleton (Doctors, Duffy: Crime Ltd) plays Annie; David Partridge (The Bill, Hotel Babylon) plays Tom; Natasha Gray (Emmerdale, My Husband and I, The New Statesman, Casualty) plays Sarah; Kevin Pallister (New Tricks, Holby City, Emmerdale, Doctors) plays Reg and Sarah Stanley (Henry’s Wives, Emmerdale) plays Ruth.

Round and Round the Garden will be the latest in a long line of in-house produced shows from the creative team at Eastbourne Theatres and directed by Artistic Director, Chris Jordan.

Ayckbourn has written and produced more than 70 plays which have won numerous awards, translated into over 35 languages and aperformed on stage and television throughout the world. Ten have been staged on Broadway, attracting two Tony nominations, and one Tony award.
