THE FRIENDS of the Towner will be presenting a talk by Elizabeth Muir-Lewis at the Under Ground Theatre on April 1 (7.30pm).

She will talk about the extraordinary times after the Second World War when Britain emerged as a world force in the operatic scene.

She will illustrate her talk with superb recordings of Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes – considered the most important British opera of the 20th century, as well as showing some of a DVD of a performance of Grimes from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.

Tickets cost £8 from Wendy Bishop on 731607 or from the Tourist Information Centre or at the door.
