In response to “many requests” for Miles Ahead, the Curzon cinema will next week screen the film about jazz trumpet legend Miles Davis, which features Don Cheadle in the starring role, as well as being director and co-writer.
The film features Emayatzy Corinealdi as his long-suffering wife and Ewan McGregor as a Rolling Stone reporter.
This film is very much Cheadle’s baby: the idea for him to star in the biopic began when Cheadle was auditioning for Ali, and writer Chris Wilkenson suggested it, noting that he knew the Davis family. Cheadle was interested although he didn’t seriously consider it until 2006. That year, when Davis was being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Davis’ nephew stated that Cheadle was the only person who could play Miles and that he had the family backing. The film plays for one day only on Wednesday May 25 at 2.05pm, 5pm and 8.10pm.
