The Society of Eastbourne Artists held a “very successful” three day 70th Anniversary Exhibition at the Lansdowne Hotel.
The event was launched at a preview evening by Antony Penrose, director of Farley Art Trust, photographer and author.
He congratulated the members on the very high standard of work with over 300 original paintings on display. The Mayor Cllr. Janet Coles presented awards on the Saturday morning, which were supplied by the Lansdowne Hotel, Mockford Blinds, The Towner, Emma Mason Gallery, Eastbourne Framing Centre and Gemma Williams Framing.
The President’s Award was won by Jayne Kersse for Great Tits Feeding. Around 700 visitors came to the exhibition, 46 paintings were sold along with artists cards and framing supplies from Picture Transformations. The Society was pleased to present Eastbourne Mencap and Eastbourne Blind Society with cheques for £250 each.
The Society of Eastbourne Artists was founded in 1946 by a group of just 12 artists. Typically today the membership is around 180 from beginners to professionals. Membership is £20 per year which includes free demonstration evenings, lectures and critiques nine times a year. Guests are always welcome to the Lansdowne Hotel on the third Friday of the month at 7pm, £4 at the door.
