Young musicians will walk and play

On Saturday March 19 the South Downs Youth Orchestra will be striding out across the South Downs giving a total of nine concerts in local churches in one day.

There will be four groups walking four different routes concluding with a concert at Alfriston Church at 3pm.

Entry to all performances is free – there will be a collection on the door. Money raised from this sponsored ‘walk & play’ will be donated to church funds. The orchestra is composed of over 80 young musicians from local schools and colleges.

The first ensemble will play at Folkington and then Wilmington - Johan Sebastian Bach’s double Violin Concerto in D Minor. Ensemble 2 will play William Boyce’s Symphony No 1 in Bb at St Mary’s, Friston, and Westdean, the third will play William Boyce’s Symphony No 4 in F at Jevington and Litlington, and the fourth Ensemble will play Franz Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony (1st Movement) at Alciston and then Berwick.
