A spokesperson for Splash Point Jazz Club said: “After studying at Leeds College of Music, and then The Guildhall in London, Jacqui Hicks went on to sing with NYJO, before touring the world with jazz funk band Shakatak. In the ’90s she started her solo career and since then has sung in all the top UK jazz clubs and Festivals. Jacqui’s collaboration with Art Themen goes back many years, when they formed a highly successful trio with the late, great pianist John Critchinson.
“Art Themen has played with just about everyone on the UK scene. One of Britain’s most distinctive saxophone soloists, Art combined successful careers in music and as an orthopaedic surgeon for forty years, before his retirement from medicine. In 1975 he started what was to become a 25-year association with Stan Tracey, which showcased Themen’s consistently creative saxophone playing in bands ranging in size from quartet and sextet to full jazz orchestra.
“Backing Jacqui and Art at The Fishermen’s is the powerhouse rhythm section of Terry Seabrook (keys), Paul Whitten (bass) and Alex Eberhard (drums).”
