The Downland Singers are a small choir who normally meet at Trinity Church Hall, Willingdon Triangle.

They are finding ways to keep in contact and recruit new members as we head towards Christmas.

The Downland Singers have been embracing the new technologies in an effort to stay connected.

Chairman Rosemary Rowett said: “In the summer lockdown we kept in touch and sang via Zoom,

“And until we can meet again in person, we are arranging more Zoom sessions in the run-up to Christmas.

“Normally we perform at Christmas in care homes and in the Beacon Centre but this year we cannot, owing to Covid-19 restrictions.

“However we want to not only keep our voices in trim but would like to add to our numbers.

“We welcome anyone who can and wants to sing.

“Sight reading is helpful but not essential.

““More importantly though is a willingness to learn as you sing and we can help you to achieve this.

“The more of us, the merrier the Christmas cheer and we all need that.

“Are you missing singing and in need of some festive fun?

“We warmly invite you to join our Christmas Zooms on Thursdays 7.30pm-8.30pm December 3, 10 and 17

“We have been unable to meet since February or perform since last Christmas.”

Rosemary added: “Our repertoire covers songs from the shows, popular songs through the ages, songs made famous by groups like The Beatles and Abba, Christmas and Easter traditional songs including, of course, carols and some of the great oratorios of past centuries.”
