Choir celebrates anniversary

Noteworthy Voices celebrate their first year together with a concert at St Andrews Church, Alfriston, tomorrow - on Saturday May 7. Titled Something Old, Something New, the concert focuses on composers who have looked to the past for inspiration.

The programme will open with a selection of delightful Renaissance-style madrigals by Victorian composer Pearsall; Debussy’s Trois Chansons are the composers only published ‘a cappella’ works and are settings of medieval texts by Charles Duke of Orleans.

Hubert Parry’s Songs of Farewell were written during the First World War, and include texts dating back to the 16th century. The sacred theme continues with works in plainchant-style by Duruflé, Messiaen and contemporary composer Eric Whitacre. The concert starts 7.30 and tickets are £8 at the door. Under 18 free.
