African harmonies and rhythms set to sound at Hailsham Festival

ZULU Tradition have been described as Ladysmith Black Mambazo with high kicks and hail from the Zulu heartland Durban in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

The company of young Zulu singers and dancers are set to deliver a heady mix of African harmonies with drum-rhythms and high-energy, athletic dance to Hailsham Pavilion on September 22 as part of the Hailsham Festival.

Their stage shows are exciting, enthralling and hugely entertaining and they attract enthusiastic audiences.

As a troupe they have performed at Buckingham Palace and the South African High Commission for the first officially sanctioned Mandela Day, whilst individual members have performed in the UK as part of The Mighty Zulu Nation and on the West End stage in The Lion King.

Traditionally costumed, Zulu Tradition reach back into the past to preserve ancient skills, and stretch forward towards contemporary Africa.

A typical show encompasses: Maskandi (indigenous Zulu music as well as traditional song and dance including Zulu psalms (Amahubo); traditional songs (Amaculo Esintu); and various genres of traditional dance (i.e. Iingoma, Umzansi, Isigenyane, Nendlamu).

They place great value on the oral relaying of information from the older generation to the younger generations (Ukuthamundwa).

Their songs are both traditional and original and the raw power of a cappella voices, the enchantment of the story, the pounding rhythm of the African drums.

They are also running a free-to-attend afternoon workshop prior to their evening performances.
