Moments after the at Charlton game kicked off, play was stopped as Charlton fans continued their protestsagainst owner Roland Duchatelet by throwing balloons and inflatible balls onto the pitch.

After a six-minute delay, the Seagulls quickly took the lead when Connor Goldson sent Jiri Skalak’s free kick across goal for Sam Baldock to tap home.

Charlton threatened from a couple of set-pieces shortly afterwards as Jorge Teixeira failed to connect with Jordan Cousins’ corner, before an unmarked Morgan Fox shot straight at Seagulls goalkeeper David Stockdale following a Johann Gudmundsson corner.

Anthony Knockaert saw a long-range effort saved by Charlton keeper Nike Pope at the other end before half-time.

In the second half, Baldock dragged a shot wide, before Charlton levelled on 52 minutes when Gudmundsson turned home a low cross at the back post.

Baldock almost restored Brighton’s lead immediately but was denied by Pope, before Albion did go 2-1 ahead on 55 minutes when Beram Kayal teed up Skalak, who side-footed into the top corner.

Gudmundsson sent a half-volley just over with time running out, before Knockaert saw a curling effort superbly kept out by Pope.

The Seagulls made sure of all three points in injury-time when Knockaert was tripped by Rod Fanni and Tomer Hemed netted his 17th goal of the season from the penalty spot.
