The organisers will be hosting an aquathlon on the September 13 and a duathlon on October 11.

As well as adult races over both sprint and standard distances, the aquathlon will also include TriStar races for children from age eight up.

With events around the country not able to proceed, it’s a chance for the keen athlete to get a race in during 2020. With places limited and entries having to be booked in advance, the race could fill up quickly.

Both events will be permitted by the British Triathlon Federation under strict social distancing and hygiene guidelines. Races will start with a rolling ‘time-trial’ format, with faster competitors starting first to minimise overtaking.

The Eastbourne Aquathlon will consist of a sea swim against the backdrop of the pier, followed by a run along Eastbourne’s historic promenade. There will be various TriStar races ranging from TriStart (age eight) up to Youth (age 15-16). Adults will have two distances to choose from; a sprint distance (750m swim and 5km run) and a standard distance (1,500m swim and 10km run). There will also be relay options over the sprint and standard distances and a 1,500m swim-only race.

For those hoping to gain a GB age-group team qualification at Eastbourne next year, this is a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with the swim and run routes in race conditions, both of which will be similar to the routes used for the triathlon.

The duathlon in October is perfect for those who prefer cycling. The race starts on Eastbourne prom with a 5km run. After the run, participants will ride the challenging 19km bike route via Beachy Head and Birling Gap.

The race ends with a 2.5km run finishing at Eastbourne’s Helen Gardens.
