Harriers impress at Lancing

Hailsham Harriers competed in the 3rd round of the Sussex County Cross Country league meetings held at Lancing.

The ladies produced another great team performance on this undulating course which included a substantial climb to test endurance but the return then provided downhill sections for a faster finish.

The race was won by Emma McCready from Worthing and District Harriers in 18m27s but the Harriers squad was headed home by Alissa Ellis in 13th place giving her third in the vets with Sam Alvarez 16th, fourth vet, and Liz Lumber 20th, sixth vet.

Excellent support from the rest of the team saw Harriers placed fifth with 80 points which maintained their fifth place overall after the three races in Division One.

In the ladies vets section Harriers produced the team win which saw them second overall and closing in on the current leaders Arena 80 Brighton.

Positions: 13th Alissa Ellis 20m51s, 16th Sam Alvarez 20m59s, 20th Liz Lumber 21m06s, 31st Cat Bounds 21m43s, 63rd Helen O’Sullivan 24m26s, 72nd Julie Chicken 25m15s, 84th Louise Taylor 26m12s.

The mens team also came up trumps with an excellent performance in a race won by Chris Smith Haywards Heath Harriers in 27m03s.

First for Harriers and in his first season for the club was Chris Demouny in 65th with Simon Haddon 74th,Graham Purdye 79th and Tom Clewley 85th all finishing within the top 100.

This saw the team finish 3rd in their division with 303 points and are placed 4th after the 3 races. Positions and times were as follows: 65th Chris Demouny 33m59s, 74th Simon Haddon 34m36s.
