Eastbourne Boxing Club captain Lee Jenkins has just been contacted by Team GB to come and trial for their squads for the Japan 2020 cycle.
Eastbourne’s Middleweight national semi finalist was contacted on Monday 16th May to say they were very much impressed with his performances in the national championships and would like to offer him the opportunity to trial to compete at the highest of levels.
Jenkins, 26, has had a fantastic season winning the southern counties championships and then beating the western champion and the London champion before losing out to the number one seed in the middleweight semi final up in Liverpool. Studying towards his masters at Chelsea School in the University of Brighton, Lee has not only been busy in the academic ring, but in the squared ring too.
He said: “I saw the email today and was ecstatic. I have spoken to my coach and we will be working out a training cycle to ensure we are peaking again at the right times for the trials. I had plans to turn professional next season but thus changes things slightly. I will work my hardest to see how far I can get with securing a GB place.”
Lee will be at the home of GB at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield between June 24th - 26th.
Meanwhile watch this space and come and join Lee and many other boxers and keep fitters at Eastbourne Boxing Club, 45a Commercial Road, BN21 3XF.
