History was made in Eastbourne last week as the town’s Bomb S’quad took to the track for the first time.

The resident men’s roller derby team has continued to go from strength to strength since it was officially established in January 2014.

Now, with enough members to form a full team, the Bomb S’quad are aiming high and hope to compete nationally before entering into the European Championships in the near future.

The team’s debut match came against the Surrey Jammerwockies in a closed-door bout at the Causeway School, in Eastbourne.

Bomb S’quad member Jez ‘Chasing Status’ English said, “Although The Bomb S’quad lost the game, it was still smiles all round. This marked an important first step for us, showing both how far we have come and how much there is still to do if we are to accomplish our goal of competing both nationally and internationally.”

If anybody wants to become a part of the UK’s fastest growing sport, The Bomb S’quad will be hosting a ‘Fresh Meat’ intake event alongside women’s team The Bourne Bombshells and junior team The New Bournes.

The recruitment session will take place at The Causeway School, Larkspur Drive, at 2.30pm on March 29.

The club has limited numbers of complete kit courtesy of Sports England, so contact in advance if you wish to borrow skates or other equipment.
