2,250 bowls, 18km, 3.1 tons: Capt Sir Tom would be proud of Eastbourne bowlers

Members of Gildredge Park Bowling Club took part in ‘100 bowls for Captain Tom’ in aid of Dementia UK.

Sixteen bowlers bowled 100 bowls each and 13 bowlers playing in tag teams played 50 bowls each.

On a day when the weather was not in the bowlers’ favour with rain and cold to overcome, they bowled 2,250 bowls between them, walked 18km, moved 3.1 tons in weight and played for 91 hours – a great achievement.
