Eastbourne Cricket Club have signed Australian youth international all-rounder Aaron Mullins as their overseas player for 2012.
Mullins, 20, is a right-handed top order batsman and bowls left arm orthodox spin. He has represented Australia at International Youth Championships in the U16 age group and was also selected in the Cricket Australia U18 Talent Squad in 2008-09.
At the National Youth Championships, Mullins was selected three times in the team of the championship and is currently second on the all-time wicket takers list for the Cricket Australia U17 National Championships with 39 wickets averaging 8.93.
He was the leading wicket taker at the 2007/08 Under 17 National Championships with 23 wickets after seven games and was also the leading wicket taker in the School Sport Australia U16 International tour against India, which included players such as Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Marsh.
In 2010-11, Mullins was awarded the Les Favell Medal as East Torrens District Cricket Club’s Player of the Year after a season of 471 runs at an average of 42.82. Furthermore, he received the U21 Spin Bowler of the Year award five times running between 2005-06 and 2010-11.
In his first year of A Grade cricket, Mullins was nominated for the Jason Gillespie Medal Grade Cricket Rising Star Award and also received the Junior Cricketer of the Year.
Mullins is keen to develop his career in the Sussex Premier League at the Saffrons with Eastbourne and hopes it will enable him to achieve his ambition of playing first class cricket.
The spinning all-rounder was keen to play cricket in the Sussex area as he now works in Brighton after securing a move from CAM Management Solutions from Sydney office to Brighton.
Eastbourne Cricket Club chairman Fletch said, “We have done our research on this lad and we feel he will be a tremendous signing for us.
“He can bat high-up the order and his stats tell us that he can certainly bowl a bit as well.
“Hopefully we will help him reach his full potential this season.”
The first team’s first league fixture is at Horsham on May 5.
