“I’m really interested in getting new people into the game.

“We’ve got a huge initiative at the club to get kids active and to get new members through the door.

“Golf is a great sport for kids to get into, I started young and you learn good skills such as etiquette and, physically, it’s a great sport in terms of coordination.”

A survey carried out by Golfmark shows that there has been a nine per cent decrease in members across Sussex golf clubs.

This isn’t the case at Willingdon, however, who, under Gale’s leadership, have bucked the trend and are enjoying an increase in members keen to play golf.

“We’re offering free taster sessions and we’ve been doing free one-to-one sessions as well.

“We’ve already got in excess of 30 children signed up for the new programmes and these will carry on throughout the summer.”

The club is in good hands under the new head professional’s leadership and Eastbourne might just produce the new Tiger Woods yet.

Gale’s passion shines through and Eastbourne’s young golf enthusiasts can look forward to accessible golf insuperb facilities at Willingdon.
